Cycling: Hincapie! Plus, la Vuelta Begins With a Slow Week.

The headline says it all:

Hincapie wins U.S. pro road race

It may not be as cool as if he’d won that second yellow jersey, but it will still be cool to see George bopping around Europe in the stars and stripes next season. I really have to make it down to Greenville some time.

La Vuelta

Ivan Basso, Liquigas

I’m all about Ivan Basso this month. I’ve been pulling for him all year and he really looks like he’s ready to put it all together. He finished in the top ten in the opening time trial, and that was never his strong suit, so I’m going to take that as a good sign for his form.

Beyond Ivan, I’m expecting Samuel Sanchez to light things up. He’s been aiming for this race all year and he’s super talented, so I expect some great things.

Vino? I think Vino is going to surprise some people. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

One Astana rider I do feel pretty good about is Chris Horner. I’d LOVE to see him in the top 10 in Madrid.

Valverde, you ask? Until he proves me wrong, I will never pick him in a grand tour again. Even though this is probably going to be his last go-round for a couple of years, I’m still not sold on Valverde as a real GC threat. He’ll certainly be involved, I just don’t imagine he’ll put the whole package together.
