Books 2009 #9 One Up on Wall Street

One Up on Wall Street I’d never read this. It’s an interesting read, especially in light of what’s going on with the economy and the stock market over the past couple of years. Personally, I’ve enjoyed picking and owning individual stocks when I’ve done it, and I’m looking to do more of it right now, so I figured I’d go to the source.

One of the things about this book (and about the advice of Warren Buffet) is that part of the the advice is to invest in things you understand and have an edge on from personal experience. Both guys then go on to say, basically, “don’t invest in technology because non one understands that stuff.” The thing is, for me, if there’s anything I know and have an advantage on over the next guy it’s technology. So I’m forced to try to shoe-horn his other advice into a sector he actively belittles.

Oh well. We’ll just have to see how it goes.
