Movies 2008 #29 Justice League: The New Frontier

I enjoyed Justice League – The New Frontier. It wasn’t quite the equal of Darwyn Cooke’s comic, a series I absolutely adored, but it was pretty cool nonetheless. Like the original series, the film is set in the 1960s and retells the origin of the Justice League. Also like the series, the film captures a lot of what was right about ’60s comics and adds a nice sociopolitical layer on top the bold, action-packed framework. It doesn’t have the depth of the comic (for my money it could have been twice as long so as to fill it out that depth) and lacks some of the wonderful nostalgic touches that warmed the heart of this unrepentant comic geek, but it’s still a very enjoyable ride. Well worth your time.
