Movies #39, 40, and 41 White; Fight, Zatoichi, Fight; A Better Tomorrow

White (Three Colors Trilogy): I liked this better than Red. White was both fun and clever. Well, acted, briskly paced and practically seamless. This is some good stuff.

I also managed to avoid calling out “there’s some white” in every frame. I’m hoping I can do the same with Blue.

Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, Vol. 8 – Fight, Zatoichi, Fight: The ULTIMATE “Zatoichi, friend to children” film. Contains “the Zatoichi gets peed on” joke mentioned in one of the books on the subject. Equal parts funny, dramatic and exhilarating… ZATOICHI!

A Better Tomorrow: the film that really started it all for both Chow Yun Fat and John Woo. A classic in every sense of the word and one of the most important Hong Kong movies every made. Better this time that the two previous times I’d seen it. Maybe that’s because I haven’t really watched a lot of this stuff recently, but it still seemed like everything worked a little better this time.
