I did this one in felt tip pen, which, considering the odd anatomy of this race from the Malazan Book of the Fallen, was a terrible idea. I think I might do another one of these and really play up the extra joints. It could be kind of cool.
Anyway, in case you were wondering the Malazan Book of the Fallen is a 10 (!) book series from Steven Erikson. It’s probably 10,000 pages of what folks call High Fantasy. They’re uneven (as you’d almost expect with 10 books in the series) but the highlights are so high I went through the whole series in just over a year (while reading other books.) One the one hand, when these books get big they get huge. People kill gods and are powerful enough to shatter continents. Pretty sweet! On the other, human, end of the spectrum there are two sets of more human characters, one centered around a town called Darujhistan that would have fit right in with anything Fritz Leiber or Robert Howard could conjur up, and another around a group of soldiers called the Bridgeburners; that stand up alongside anything I’ve ever read in the genre in terms of the “Hell yes!” good times and drama.
