I’ll have a better Vuelta post later on this week, once I’ve had time to go over the course. Suffice it to say, with this dominant Spanish year we’ve had with the Olympics, Giro and Tour all going to different Spanish riders; I’d be hard pressed not to pick a Spaniard for the top step of the podium. Not surprisingly, I’m picking the best grand tour cyclist in the world, Astana’s Alberto Contador, for that honor. Sastre, Sanchez, Valverde will all have something to say about that, of course 🙂
On a homer note, here’s hoping Levi can pull off some sort of individual accomplishment while still helping Alberto win the Jersey de Oro
The Tour of Ireland is interesting to me because it’s the first high level bike race I’ve ever been able to watch where I’ve been on the roads they’ll be riding. Stage 4 ends in Dingle, where we rode a 50km loop last week. It’ll be really cool to see them storm past the bed and breakfast we stayed in on their way out to the far western edge of Europe.
One ride I didn’t do on a bike is the Category 1 climb of the Connor Pass. We went over it in a car and did in the opposite direction they’ll ride it come Saturday. It looked like it would be a real bear. It’s a gorgeous route though and an incredible one for the fans who will be right on top of the riders.
