Basso in Texas, training with Lance…

This story, with its mention of Lance’s fitness, made me really wonder how Lance might have done versus Basso last year. An ascendant Basso versus Armstrong on the tail end of his career would have made for grand theater, I think. Especially if Lance had taken a look at Merckx’s legacy as the best cyclist ever and decided to try to add a Giro title to the mantelpiece to edge a little closer to “the cannibal.” Basso, in the Giro, looked a lot like Lance at his peak. He was very confident and was able to counter anything thrown at him. Lance, out of his element, against someone riding like that would have been an interesting sight.
