One’s film geek status is like a stock’s moving average. Say, for example, you sit down and watch the “Apu Trilogy” in a day and follow that up the next day with a Kenji Mizoguchi marathon. At that point your film geek status would be temporarily raised. On the other end of the spectrum you could sit down and watch Valley Girl and your film geek status would take a little bit of a hit. No amount of ironic hipsterism is going to salvage the smack your status will take after sitting through something like that. Not that it was an unpleasant experience. I actually enjoyed it. It’s just not very well made and so brain-dead it’s scary.
