Knife in the Water – Criterion Collection: Early Polanski. It’s a very good film although it’s the sort of thing that gets one unintentionally thinking like a film student. Sometimes that can be a good thing. Other times it can be a bad thing. This film lies somewhere in the middle of that scale… Beyond questions like “where is Polanski going with the ham-handed Jesus allusions” the film is actually quite entertaining, so I shouldn’t go on for too much about it’s film school street cred. Check it out.
Gonin: Slightly above average modern Yakuza-fare. A solid piece of gangsterism. It’s like a Takeshi Kitano directed film (he appears in this one but does not direct) minus the humor.
