Movies 2007 #37 Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance I’m working my way through Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy. This is my second of the three and I wasn’t as impressed with this as I was with Oldboy. This is a well-made, clever film, it just seemed to lack a certain emotional component to push it over the top. I was left a little cold by this film, which, considering what takes place, is a little surprising. By comparison, Oldboy had much more emotional impact with me.

It tells the story of a young deaf-mute man, his failed plot to obtain a kidney for his sister, and the kill crazy rampage that follows in short order. There’s certainly lots of vengeance to be found, it just felt a bit clinical to me. Oh well. It’s still worth checking out.
