Ingmar Bergman is dead. I honestly didn't know he was still alive.

What kind of film geek am I that I didn’t know he was still kicking? The kind of film geek who’s not partial to his work*, that’s what kind.

I loved the Seventh Seal, however, and I watched it recently, so I’m sadder about his passing that I would have been a few weeks ago.

I love this quote from the following article:

“The demanding nature of his work, in particular the gravity of his themes, was such that the general public found him remote, and he was accused in his homeland of being partly responsible for Sweden being presented as a country of neurotics.”

The Local – Ingmar Bergman dead

*he was obviously a genius. I just didn’t care for his films. Although I’ve been tempted to revisit them in my old age, just to see if I’ve grown into them.
