Cool Fantastic Four Silver Surfer Movie Promotion

I got the heads up from one of my comic book people about this. I figured I’d post it here because, well, why not?

It’s a regular quarter with an image of the Surfer affixed to the back. I’m not sure how they did it or what the exact dispersal mechanism was, but there were 40,000 produced by the Franklin Mint. Super cool.

Here’s his auction:

eBay: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER QUARTER MOVIE PROMO LIMITED (item 280117770206 end time May-27-07 19:18:00 PDT)

Here’s the coin itself:

Edited to add: $191.50 was the winning bid. Not a bad return on investment.

Also, it appears the promotion has annoyed the US Mint.
