Movies 2007 #7 Lust for Life

Lust for Life: A very good film. The portrayals of Van Gogh and Gauguin, the two artists most prominently featured, were in line with my expectations. Douglas as Van Gogh was exceptionally good. He played what I feel when I stand in front of a great work by Van Gogh. He really got at, what feels like to me at least, the guts of him.

This is the one painting Van Gogh sold in his lifetime, by the way:

7 movies so far in January, by the way. Well ahead of my movie-a-week pace from 2006 and I’ve got at least one or two more in me before the end of the month (Kurosawa’s The Quiet Duel and I want to watch either the Fullmetal Alchemist film or The Host again.)
