Movies 2006 #53

Ugetsu – Criterion Collection: Another one that’s going into the “proper review” queue. The Bob Le Flambeur review should be done today, so Ugetsu will follow in short order. The quick skinny? Ugetsu is certainly deserving of its place in the hierarchy of Japanese and world cinema. It’s a film that works as both pure entertainment (it is a ghost story after all) and as an intellectual exercise. It’s also both cleverly and beautifully filmed.
