“Basso dope claim ‘lacks evidence'”

“One of Italy’s top cycling officials says there is no real evidence to back up doping charges against Ivan Basso.”

“‘The only link is when his name comes up in a phone conversation,’ national federation technical director Silvio Martinello told the AFP news agency.”

I would be very happy if that were the case and Basso was allowed to compete in the TDF next year. I had no doubts he would have doubled the Giro and the Tour and I was really depressed when he was pulled out of competition.

While I’m here, big time congrats go out to the most exciting GC cyclist in the peloton, Alexandre Vinokurov, on his 2006 Vuelta win. I was only able to follow it via Eurosport’s live text stream and he was still fun to follow. Such an aggressive bike rider.
