Movies #1 On the Run

Same time period as the books…
On the Run. Sadly, while it was an easy film to watch and not entirely without merit, this Yuen Biao vehicle didn’t do much for me in terms of action. Which is too bad, because, in this case at least, action is all I was looking for… With the exception of one really nice bamboo pole/ streetlight stunt, there was very little that got me going in this one. When all is said and done, the best part of the film was the finale, but it wasn’t a typical Hong Kong style finale, so it wasn’t very satisfying. Ignoring the intricate choreography I was hoping to see, they went for a Western style, meat- grinder slug fest. It was actually well-done for the style, but watching two guys artlessly pound the crap out of each other for ten minutes wasn’t exactly what I was going for when I rented this one. I mean, that’s what Lethal Weapon is for…
